Brazil anteater update: Three rescued anteater pups take their first step to freedom

News

Last year, you helped three baby giant anteaters as manmade fires ravaged their homes. Now, they’ve taken a big step forward in their journey to recovery and even have cute names!

You helped our partners on the ground in Brazil rush to rescue three anteater pups as deliberately lit manmade fires destroyed their natural homes.

They’ve made great progress in their recovery journey since then and have been given beautiful names that honour the local flora – Aroeira, Manduvi and Tarumã.

See how they’re doing, thanks to you:

The three baby giant anteaters are doing very well, growing and developing their behaviour positively.

Now, they’re all set to enter their “immersion enclosures” which means:

  • less interaction with humans,
  • more space to explore and forage,
  • greater interaction with local wildlife,
  • and a greater opportunity to demonstrate their natural behaviours.

The transition of juveniles to this area is always a moment of celebration and marks the most important phase of reintroduction to the wild.

Thanks to your support and the tireless efforts of our partners at the Tamandua Institute, the anteaters will soon be on their way back to the wild, where they belong.
